- What troubles me here is why any self-respecting BBS Sysop would spend
- approx the same dollar amount to buy a consumer grade Motorola POWER
- when (s)he could get in under USR's "Sysop Plan" and come away with a
- full-blown commercial quality Courier "V.Everything" for US $249 ??
-
- I always thought USR's Sysop Plan was sort of a 'no-brainer'.
-
- Admittedly, order fulfillment under USR's Sysop Plan takes longer than
- most "impulse buyers" are willing to wait, but that only proves the old
- saying that "Patience is a virtue".
-
- USR Courier owners really have gotten what they paid for. USR's
- trade-in/trade-up deal even does Advance Replacement at no extra charge
- and USR's FLASH prom contains both controller and DSP code. That's WHY
- Couriers were flash-upgradeable to 33.6 and why most others weren't.
-
- There are (and have been for years) USR user groups on several major
- networks including RIME, ILink, FIDO, CI$, etc. Each of these groups
- materialized out of a common interest in and infatuation with the
- Courier modem. Their apparent preoccupation now with the Sportster
- product does not diminish the founding charter of these groups. They
- were each begun out of a common interest in the COURIER. Kind of like a
- "Corvette Club of modem enthusiasts". By contrast, the Sportster is a
- mere Chevette and approximate equal of the Motorola Power & Lifestyle
- series.
-
- By buying hamburger when you're drooling at the jowels for Prime Rib,
- you are merely frustrating an already deprived appetite for excellence.
- Even if you're not a Sysop and have to order through mailorder channels
- and pay street-retail, the difference on your Credit Card payment is a
- mere $5 a month. Think about that. For a measley $5 a month more you
- could have bought a Courier. If $5/month is all that stands between you
- and the Grim reaper, you probably ought not to have bought a modem in
- the first place.
-
- Just my unsolicited $.02 worth on the matter.
