  28. What troubles me here is why any self-respecting BBS Sysop would spend
  29. approx the same dollar amount to buy a consumer grade Motorola POWER
  30. when (s)he could get in under USR's "Sysop Plan" and come away with a
  31. full-blown commercial quality Courier "V.Everything" for US $249 ??

  33. I always thought USR's Sysop Plan was sort of a 'no-brainer'.

  35. Admittedly, order fulfillment under USR's Sysop Plan takes longer than
  36. most "impulse buyers" are willing to wait, but that only proves the old
  37. saying that "Patience is a virtue".

  39. USR Courier owners really have gotten what they paid for. USR's
  40. trade-in/trade-up deal even does Advance Replacement at no extra charge
  41. and USR's FLASH prom contains both controller and DSP code. That's WHY
  42. Couriers were flash-upgradeable to 33.6 and why most others weren't.

  44. There are (and have been for years) USR user groups on several major
  45. networks including RIME, ILink, FIDO, CI$, etc. Each of these groups
  46. materialized out of a common interest in and infatuation with the
  47. Courier modem.  Their apparent preoccupation now with the Sportster
  48. product does not diminish the founding charter of these groups. They
  49. were each begun out of a common interest in the COURIER.  Kind of like a
  50. "Corvette Club of modem enthusiasts".  By contrast, the Sportster is a
  51. mere Chevette and approximate equal of the Motorola Power & Lifestyle
  52. series.

  54. By buying hamburger when you're drooling at the jowels for Prime Rib,
  55. you are merely frustrating an already deprived appetite for excellence.
  56. Even if you're not a Sysop and have to order through mailorder channels
  57. and pay street-retail, the difference on your Credit Card payment is a
  58. mere $5 a month.  Think about that. For a measley $5 a month more you
  59. could have bought a Courier. If $5/month is all that stands between you
  60. and the Grim reaper, you probably ought not to have bought a modem in
  61. the first place.
